Information on the various activities centered in and on Puntland can be found on this blog, which is updated on a frequent basis. The region of northeastern Somalia is known for its clan culture and the organizational support is based on clan relationship. Piracy is the biggest threat in the area off the coast. Somali pirates are known to frequently hold ships on ransom.
The latest blog entry reports the arrest of Al-Shabaab gunmen who were on the way to Bossaso. It is reported that they were in possession of fire arms like AK 47. The owner of the weapons was able to dodge the police, but they are hopeful of catching him soon.
In a related article, the Puntland President has defended the anti-piracy policy, which demands that the state should not accede to any demands of ransom by Somalia pirates under any circumstances. It advocates the policy of the French government to use force while dealing with piracy.
Somaliland is a great place to spend your vacation with its great tourist locations and lively bazaars. The rich culture of the country is aptly represented in the museums while its famous zoological garden is home to many rare species of birds and animals. The lofty cliffs along the long coastline are truly a visual delight.
Puntland has many places, which are rich in natural resources. Green valleys and mountain ranges dot the horizon, while the prehistoric caves help you in understanding the history of the country. The place can be reached easily from Addis Ababa, Dubai, and Djibouti city.
Piracy has reached gigantic proportions in Somalia Puntland with reports of pirates frequently attacking and holding to ransom, trailers passing through the Somali waters. More than one hundred and thirty four instances of attempted and successful seajacking have been reported. Many tankers are said to have disappeared without a trace. Another major bane is the illegal fishing activity that takes place in the coast off Somalia. The low mercury Tuna from the waters of Somali is a high priced commodity. That is the reason why the place attracts hordes of illegal fishing trawlers looking to make a fortune in these troubled waters.
Oil is a natural resource in Puntland. There have been deals signed with private drilling companies for oil exploration in the territory. Largely the Puntland oil, apart from other marine resources like fish and sea salt drives the economy. Livestock, frankincense, gum arabic and agriculture are the other major contributors to the economy.
Video blogs like driving through the Sheik City capture the countryside beauty of the place while the posted photographs capture the historical importance and geographical beauty of the place stunningly.
The heart-wrenching story of Samira reflects the life of the poor and the houseless people who live in settlements on a small patch of waste ground near Puntland. She is a victim of lawlessness that has engulfed Somalia for more than two decades now. Inter-clan fighting has displaced people like Samira and her family from their homes. With scarcity of food and water, no medical facilities and wretched living conditions, there seems to be no hope for thousands of people like her and they are condemned to live a life of indignity and untold hardship.
